The Dental Implants
The dental implants that will support your new dentures are tiny titanium screws that will be placed in narrow channels in your jawbone. In general, the dental implants may be placed in your upper and/or lower jaw near the front of your mouth. A supporting bar or ball and socket attachment will be put in place as well. This can be done in a single visit to minimize recovery time and eliminate patient discomfort. The implants will need to be in place for some time to allow for the bone to attach to the implant. During this time, you will be able to wear a temporary denture.
There are some situations where your teeth can be extracted and your new implant supported dentures placed in a single visit. This type of procedure is called immediate loading and your surgeon must evaluate your dental health prior to determining if you are a candidate or not.
